Measurements and units

Ratios and proportions

Set corresponding values consistently and solve a missing value using a scale drawing example.

A proportion keeps A ÷ B equal to C ÷ D. Supply three known values and leave the answer position empty. Matching the roles and units on both sides is what makes the comparison meaningful.

Scale a drawing measurement

Use drawing/actual length on both sides: A/B = C/D. Leave the unknown empty.

Start a new ratio

Use 2nd if a unit is above its button.

  1. Start fresh

Press Clear entry, then Clear entry.
  2. Press the keys

    Press Select length units.

1. Open Ratios

If A/B/C/D are already on the keys, skip this step. Otherwise close the current mode and tap Ratios. Skip Close if no mode is open.

  1. Press Close calculation mode, then Open Ratios.

2. Drawing reference (A)

  1. Drawing reference (A)

Press 1, then inches, then Assign value A.

3. Actual reference (B)

  1. Actual reference (B)

Press 4, then feet, then Assign value B.

4. New drawing length (C)

  1. New drawing length (C)

Press 2.5, then inches, then Assign value C.
  1. Example · D10 feet

Keep in mind

Leave the answer empty. It fills when you assign the third value. Correct a known value to update the same answer. Close returns to the regular keys; values stay until you clear the calculation.
