Enter a measurement in parts: feet, whole inches, then an inch fraction. The fraction-entry key builds a fraction; the division key performs arithmetic. Keep those two roles separate when reading a key sequence.
One foot contains 12 inches. To turn a mixed measurement into inches, multiply the feet by 12, add the whole inches, then add the inch fraction. Keep the fraction attached to the inches rather than treating it as a decimal part of a foot.
The first example enters 12 ft 6⅜ in: 12 × 12 + 6 + 3/8 = 150.375 inches. Figure lets you enter those parts directly instead of doing that conversion first.
